Install FluentRead from your browser’s official extension store.
Can’t open the Chrome Web Store?
If the Chrome Web Store does not open, download the latest stable package from the official GitHub release page and follow the offline installation instructions. You can also try CRXSOso, a third-party distribution website whose version may differ from the official store.
The walkthrough below uses Chrome. Click Add to Chrome, review the requested permissions, then choose Add extension.

Mobile, userscripts & Thunderbird
On Edge for Android versions that support extensions, find FluentRead through the extension menu. After installation, open FluentRead from the extensions list and translate the page. Use the menu or floating ball on mobile. Check your browser for extension availability on iPhone and iPad.

Pin the extension
Keep FluentRead in your toolbar so you can open it easily.
In Chrome:
- Click the puzzle-shaped Extensions icon beside the address bar.
- Find FluentRead and click its pin icon.
- Click the FluentRead icon that now appears in the toolbar to open its menu.
Other browsers may use different toolbar menu names. Refresh any webpages that were open before you installed the extension.

Translate a webpage
- Open an article in another language, such as a news story or blog post. Browser settings and extension stores cannot be translated.
- Click FluentRead in the toolbar. On first use, choose Set interface language, select your language, and click Confirm.
- Check the target language in the main menu. You can keep the source on Automatic detection and use the default Free translation service.
- Click Translate this page. Translations appear below the original paragraphs. Scroll down to keep reading.
The free translation service works without configuration. Your interface language controls the buttons and settings labels; your target language controls the translated content. Choose them separately.

To return to the original, open FluentRead and choose Restore this page. Restore first if you want to translate again with another language or provider.
Translate selected text
Open the Selection translation card in the extension menu and enable its switch. Select a word or sentence. Click the FluentRead icon beside your selection to see the translation.

Translate a paragraph
Open the Hover translation card and check that the default hover shortcut is enabled. Move your pointer over a paragraph and press Control. Its translation appears underneath. Press Control again to restore the original paragraph.

Troubleshooting
If translation does not start, make sure the extension is enabled and refresh a normal webpage. If the free service is busy, try again later or switch providers. See Troubleshooting for other issues.
